Br. Stephen Oneka Ayela
Uganda
DOB: 04/09/1986
Male
Good Health
Favorite Subject: Theology
Favorite Pastime: Soccer

Br. Stephen’s journey toward the priesthood began in his early years, deeply influenced by the devout Catholic foundation his grandmother instilled in him through nightly family recitations of the Rosary and weekly Mass attendance. This upbringing fostered a profound spirituality within him, and interactions with visiting priests further inspired his desire to serve God. During Uganda’s turbulent times under the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), his family faced difficulties, forcing his parents to withdraw him from the Aboke Minor Seminary. However, his commitment to his calling remained unwavering, and he continued his education at Kisubi Seminary, where he excelled academically.

Amidst these challenges, Stephen returned to live with his grandmother in Tororo. Driven by his pastoral experiences, he volunteered as a teacher in a local school, offering his service without pay as a way to honor God by educating His children. It was during this period that he met the founder of the Sons of St. Pius of Pietrelcina, who saw great potential in him. This encouragement inspired Stephen to join the congregation and commit himself to the religious life. Currently, he is in his second year of theology at Tangaza University, deeply immersed in theological studies and practical ministries essential for his formation as a future priest.

While Stephen’s dedication to his calling is evident, financial constraints threaten to disrupt his journey. Though he receives support for basic needs like food, accommodation, and medical care, funding for his tuition fees for the remaining two years of theological studies is still lacking. His parents, despite their wishes to support him, are financially unable to meet the high costs of his education.

Supporting Br. Stephen's education is not only an investment in his vocation but also in the future of the faith community he intends to serve. By contributing to his theological training, sponsors will empower him to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to lead church operations, manage ministries, and foster spiritual growth within his community. Any generous assistance will play a critical role in ensuring he can complete his formation, fully equipping him to serve as a priest and guide to many.

About my community:
St. Anthony of Padua (Fort Portal)
In the Diocese of Fort Portal, CARITAS helps to sponsor Capuchin Franciscan seminarians during their priestly formation. The patron Saint for this community is St. Anthony of Padua, and we pray for his intercession so that these young men excel in their studies and also become holy priests, spreading the Gospel wherever they are assigned after ordination.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
