Br. Ponsiano's journey toward priesthood began in his childhood, nurtured by a strong Catholic upbringing with nightly family Rosary recitations and weekly Mass attendance. His faith grew even deeper when he joined an altar-serving group in primary four, which allowed him to interact closely with priests and deepened his desire to one day enter the seminary.
Though he longed to join the minor seminary immediately after primary school, his family’s financial limitations prevented him from doing so. His parents, who were low-income farmers, could not afford the high fees. The situation worsened in 2018 when his father became gravely ill and eventually passed away, leaving the family in a difficult position. Br. Ponsiano had to sit out of school for an entire year before repeating S.4 in 2019.
In 2020, with perseverance, he joined St. Mary’s Minor Seminary Virika, which offered the flexibility to pay fees in installments. This opportunity allowed him to continue his education and obtain his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
Recently, Br. Ponsiano was accepted to Katigondo National Major Seminary, where he could take the next critical step in his formation toward priesthood. However, the tuition and associated costs are beyond his family's means, especially with his widowed mother, now sixty, struggling to make ends meet through small-scale farming.
Br. Ponsiano is earnestly seeking financial assistance to continue his education and pursue his vocation. Any support would bring him closer to fulfilling his calling and would be a meaningful investment in his dedication to serve as a future priest, bringing spiritual guidance and support to his community.
