Finding CARITAS Catholic Child Sponsorship Programs

As far back as I can recall I have always had a special place in my heart for the precious children in need who would flash across the TV screen. They always tugged at my heart.  I had a deep desire to do something for children in need. I began "adopting" them through various charities around the age of 18 or 19.

In our early years of marriage, my husband Dave and I would talk about how great it would be to have a house large enough to adopt many, many children in need. We continued to sponsor children over the years, while we have raised our family. Recently, however, my husband felt keenly aware of the fact that while we were helping all these children, we were not helping them to receive Catholic doctrine in the education we were supporting for them.

Dave quickly sought out to find a Catholic ministry to sponsor children through and he found CARITAS For Children. Since then we have sponsored a few children through CARITAS' child sponsorship programs, including Fred and our newest sponsored child Steven. It is comforting to know that the children are attending a Catholic school and being taught by loving Sisters, while also receiving clean water and basic medical needs.

We love knowing that while we may not have that large house filled with adopted children we are able to be a part of the lives of some beautiful souls across the world in Uganda. Living the Works of Mercy can be done in many ways and we are grateful for the opportunity to take part in this little way.

It is such an honor to keep these children in our daily prayers and we become very excited each time we see a new picture of them! Our 12 and 5-year-old daughters are excited to draw pictures and write letters to our sponsored children. We can hardly wait to get to know Steven and look forward to watching them both grow. We feel blessed to be part of the CARITAS family.
