Healing After War

Healing After War

A Community Rebuilding in Northern Uganda

For many children in Northern Uganda, childhood was interrupted by war.

During the Lord’s Resistance Army insurgency, thousands of young people were taken from their families. Some were forced to become soldiers. Others returned home carrying deep trauma from what they had experienced.

In the middle of that crisis, a small group of Catholic brothers opened their doors in Ngetta in the Diocese of Lira.

Their building was damaged. Their resources were limited. But they welcomed young people who needed hope.

- Former child soldiers.
- Young mothers rescued from captivity.
- Children trying to rebuild their lives.

Through prayer, education, and guidance, the brothers helped many of these young people begin again.

Today something beautiful is growing from that same place.

Community in Northern Uganda

A new Catholic community, the Padre Pio Brothers, is now forming young men who want to dedicate their lives to serving the poor and bringing healing to their communities.

But the building that shelters them still carries the wear of many difficult years. It urgently needs renovation so the growing community can continue its mission.

Padre Pio Brothers

This Lent, 2026, CARITAS For Children is helping repair and expand the formation house.

A generous donor has offered $20,000 in matching funds, and we are now $4,500 away from completing the match before Easter.

If you’d like to learn more about the project or help support this mission of healing and hope, you can read the full story here: Home for Padre Pio Brothers

CARITAS For Children is a Catholic 501c3 nonprofit organization that promotes sponsorships worldwide. The Catholic church approves of this charity and its mission to spread the gospel.
