Ziria Nakawuma
Uganda
DOB: 09/02/2013
Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: Science
Favorite Pastime: Netball

Ziria is living with her mother and four siblings in a house that was given to them by someone who needed caretakers for his gardens. Both of her parents were totally uneducated; the mother was a housewife while the father was a pit digger.

One day, their father went to do a job in an unknown location and never came back. They have not heard from him at all. Now their mother provides for the children through some food that is given to her by the garden owner. She also sometimes digs in other people’s gardens to get enough food and some money for other basic needs, but she certainly cannot afford to send her children to school.

Ziria and her siblings would like to become good citizens by completing their educations but they will not be able to without sponsorships. Ziria likes learning about science and playing netball.

About my country:
Uganda
Known as the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda’s population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
