Sylivia's living situation is quite challenging as she stays with her grandmother, who is elderly and unable to contribute to the family's income. The grandmother receives some limited support from relatives and well-wishers, but it is not enough to cover all their needs. Sylivia's father, unfortunately, has succumbed to alcoholism and neglects his responsibilities, leading a troubled life that offers no support to the family.

In the absence of a stable income, Sylivia's mother takes on the responsibility of providing for the family by vending cooked food in their small hometown. However, the earnings from this business are meager and mostly go towards her grandmother's medical needs and essential household items.

Despite the challenges, Sylivia remains determined to pursue her dreams. She attends classes at a nearby private school, but the financial strain makes it difficult for her to have a consistent attendance. There have been instances where she was sent home due to unpaid fees balances, impacting her academic progress.

Sylivia dreams of becoming a doctor, driven by her desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others. However, without adequate support, her dreams may remain out of reach. To help her achieve her aspirations, Sylivia seeks assistance through Caritas for Children. With the support to cover her school fees and provide the necessary school requirements, Sylivia can have a steady attendance in classes and focus on her studies, moving one step closer to becoming a doctor.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
