Shimon Ssugunju
Shimon’s father walked away from his family with the aim of looking for jobs, however, it's been years and he never returned home. Shimon's mother tried to find out where he went, but she has had no luck tracing him.
Shimon's mother has been struggling to make ends meet through growing crops like cassava, potatoes, and bananas just to provide food for her children. Sometimes they are able to sell the surplus to make a little extra money to buy basic necessities for their home. The income from the extra food brings some relief to the financial hardships of the family, but it's never enough to cover Shimon’s school fees.
Shimon has been attending classes, but his attendance has been sporadic and irregular due to lack of fees and essential school materials. His mother is seeking assistance from CARITAS For Children so that her son can attend school and realize his dream of being a teacher.

St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
