The loss of both parents to AIDS left Samuel and his siblings in a precarious situation. With their father's passing, followed by their mother, the children were left in a small two-roomed house, struggling to find sustenance. Their parents' absence has created a void not only in their emotional lives but also in their everyday survival.

Now, Samuel and his siblings reside with their elderly grandmother. At over seventy years old, she is in the twilight of her life and lacks the strength to engage in income-generating activities. Despite these challenges, she does her best to provide for them, keeping a few animals like goats and pigs. Occasionally, she sells one to afford basic home necessities.

Samuel, despite these challenges, shows great potential in his academic pursuits. However, the lack of tuition fees and essential classroom resources is a significant barrier to his educational progress. He aspires to be a teacher, a dream that could be realized with the right support and assistance. Sponsorship could be the key to unlocking Samuel's potential, allowing him to achieve his academic goals and perhaps, in time, offer guidance and inspiration to others in similar circumstances.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
