Samantha Maria lives in a small town with both of her parents. Her father works as a farmer, cultivating a small plot of land that he inherited from his father. He grows crops like potatoes, cassava, beans, and bananas. He is able to harvest enough of these crops to feed the family, and usually a small amount is leftover to be sold at the market. This additional income is used to buy basic home essentials. Samantha's mother is a housewife who stays home and cares for the children and well-being of the family.

Although the family is able to keep food on the table, they face many financial hardships. Samantha recently reached school-going age, but her parents haven't been able to afford tuition, so she's not attending at this time. They have reached out to CARITAS For Children for support in order to pay her tuition. Samantha Maria's parents want her to have a happy and successful life, and they know that a good education is necessary to achieve that goal.
Samantha Maria and her parents are so grateful for any support provided.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
