Favorite Subject: Science

Ruth was abandoned by her parents at a young age, but her loving grandmother stepped in to care for her. At the time, Ruth was severely malnourished and sick, but through her grandmother’s care and dedication, she recovered and began to thrive.

They live simply, relying on a small garden for food and selling any extra to meet basic needs. Ruth’s father struggles with addiction, and her mother is often absent, leaving her grandmother as her sole caregiver.

Ruth attends school and works hard, but frequent setbacks—like being sent home due to missing supplies or unpaid fees—interrupt her education. Sadly, she recently lost the sponsor who had supported her for several years due to the sponsor’s own financial difficulties.

Ruth is a bright and resilient girl. With a new sponsor, she would have the chance to continue her education without disruption and pursue a brighter future.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
