Prossy is living with her grandmother who is a peasant in her late seventies. She has not been able to support Prossy and her siblings in school after the death of their father. Her mother lived with them for about a year before she abandoned them. They heard some years ago that she got remarried but are not sure where she is.

The grandmother has little energy but with the help of the children, they can grow food enough to feed themselves, and other relatives and friends help to provide clothing for them. Even with this help, they do not have enough money to educate all the children. Prossy should have been in a class higher than the one she is in now but since they cannot afford it, she and her siblings have not been attending school for some years.

Even though she hasn’t been in school, Prossy loves to learn would like to become a doctor when she grows up if she gets a chance to complete her education.
