Precious is one of four children. Their family is very poor, as their father is a local door to door compound cleaner in their village. His job earns him about $25 per month because of the general low income levels of his clients. This career is not always consistent, and sometimes he goes days or weeks without a paying job.

Their mother is a small scale peasant farmer, but this job doesn't bring in any income because all of the crops she harvests are used at home to feed the family. Even with all of the work she puts in, the food she brings home still isn't enough to sustain the family, and the children often go hungry.

Precious is an enthusiastic and smart boy. He has great ambitions to be a world class surgeon, but he recognizes the many barricades that life has thrown his way. He doesn't want to give up his dream, and is sincerely hoping for doors to open in his life.

Precious' parents cannot afford to send their children to school, which is a significant roadblock to the children's futures. His parents want their children to thrive and succeed, so they have reached out to CARITAS For Children for possible assistance. Support of any kind towards the education of Precious and his other siblings is warmly welcomed and appreciated.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
