Oliver lives with her mother and siblings after the passing of her father due to AIDS. Following his death, the family has faced severe hardship, especially as her mother also contracted the illness and continues to manage ongoing health challenges. She is, however, able to access antiretroviral medication, which has helped improve her condition and daily well-being.

Despite her health struggles, Oliver’s mother works hard to support the family. She keeps a few domestic animals and cultivates a small plot of land to grow food for household consumption. The income generated from these activities is only enough to cover basic necessities such as salt and sugar, and is not sufficient to meet school fees and other educational needs for the family’s seven children.

Oliver attends a privately owned school and is a promising student who is doing well academically. She is determined and focused in her studies, with a strong dream of becoming a teacher in the future.

Support from a sponsor would help ease the financial burden on the family and ensure Oliver can continue her education consistently as she works toward her goal.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
