Nicolas lives with his mother and siblings in a modest four-room house built long ago by his late father. His mother has no stable employment and relies on occasional work in other people’s gardens to provide for the family. They keep a few domestic animals, such as goats and pigs, to help supplement their income, but life remains very difficult.

The challenges are even greater because both Nicolas and some of his siblings struggle with health issues. Nicolas suffers from asthma and other genetic autoimmune disorders. He has a persistent cough that has become drug-resistant, as well as recurring fevers that affect his daily life.

Although Nicolas tries hard to succeed in school, his academic performance is affected by two major obstacles: frequent illness and the lack of money for tuition, supplies, and basic school requirements. His mother simply cannot afford these costs on her own.

With support, both for his medical needs and his education, Nicolas would have the opportunity to focus on his studies, stay in school consistently, and work toward a brighter future.
