Miracle Joy lives with her mother and eight siblings after being abandoned by her father, who left the family to marry another woman. He has since had no involvement in the care or support of his children.

Since then, Miracle Joy’s mother has carried the full responsibility of raising the family on her own. She works hard to provide for the household by growing crops and keeping a few domestic animals, which she sells to meet basic needs and contribute toward school fees. Despite her efforts, the family continues to face significant hardship, and at times they go without meals.

To help supplement the household income, the older children occasionally engage in small income-generating activities such as selling firewood and carrying water in order to buy basic necessities like clothing and shoes.

Miracle Joy attends school but is often affected by a lack of school requirements, including fees and learning materials.

With consistent support, she would be able to remain in school, focus on her studies, and pursue a more stable and hopeful future.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
