Maria lives with her parents, who practice small-scale subsistence farming to feed the family. While they grow crops and keep animals, their limited income is not enough to meet all their basic needs.

Maria and her siblings attend a nearby private school, but their attendance is irregular due to the family’s struggle to pay school fees on time. Despite these challenges, Maria is a promising student with great potential. With support, she could continue her education without interruption and work toward a brighter future.

St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)

In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.

Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
