Maria Assumpta Nannozi
Uganda
Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: Math
Favorite Pastime: Dancing

Maria Assumpta is part of a family of five children, whose parents work as peasant farmers in a small village near a trading center. Their livelihood depends on cultivating crops and raising domestic animals on a limited stretch of land. The family consumes most of what they grow and raise, and any excess is sold to cover other essential household needs.

However, Maria faces challenges in her education due to her family's financial limitations. Her school attendance is sporadic, largely because her parents struggle to consistently pay school fees and provide the necessary classroom materials. This lack of regular education poses a significant barrier to her academic progress and overall development.

To achieve her aspiration of becoming a teacher, Maria urgently needs external assistance. Support in meeting her educational expenses would not only ensure consistent attendance at school but also pave the way for her to realize her dreams and potentially transform her family's circumstances.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
