Since the passing of her father, Maggie and her family have faced significant challenges. The loss of the family's primary provider plunged them into poverty, severely affecting the children's ability to consistently attend school. Maggie's mother, previously reliant on her husband for financial support, has struggled to adapt and find sustainable work to support the family's basic needs.

Attempting to make ends meet, Maggie's mother ventured into selling charcoal. However, this endeavor did not succeed as expected; she faced difficulties in collecting payments, often resulting in losses when customers took charcoal without paying. This business struggle has only added to the family's financial instability, leaving them unable to consistently afford essentials like food and clothing, much less regular school attendance for Maggie.

Maggie, a promising student, has been adversely affected by her sporadic school attendance, hindering her academic performance. Despite these setbacks, she remains a dedicated learner with aspirations of becoming a nurse. Providing support and stability in her education could significantly impact her ability to achieve her dreams and break the cycle of poverty afflicting her family.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
