Joseph's life has taken a difficult turn following the passing of his parents, leaving him under the care of his elderly grandmother. At her late seventies and grappling with ill-health, his grandmother struggles to provide a decent living for her grandchildren, plunging the family into a life below the poverty line. This lack of parental love and support, coupled with financial hardship, paints a challenging picture of Joseph's upbringing.

Despite these adversities, Joseph has been fortunate to attend a reputable privately owned primary school, recognized for its academic excellence. This opportunity has been made possible through the modest income his grandmother earns from selling garden harvests like maize. The ability to continue his education under such circumstances is a testament to both Joseph's resilience and his grandmother's dedication to his future.

Joseph's academic performance and determination are notable, as he aims to work hard and someday graduate as a civil engineer. His aspirations highlight his drive to overcome the barriers presented by his current circumstances and achieve success. Joseph's story is a powerful reminder of the impact of education and the difference it can make in the life of a child facing adversity.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
