When Joseph Adil was about two years old, his mother left him and his brother and later remarried. Their father, who sold secondhand clothes door to door, wasn’t able to care for them full-time, so he brought them to live with their grandmother and supported them as best he could—until he was tragically killed while returning from work.
Joseph and his brother have remained in their grandmother’s care, along with six other orphaned grandchildren. Four of them are currently supported through CARITAS For Children, but she is still struggling to provide for the remaining two, including Joseph.
The family depends on small-scale farming to grow food like maize, beans, cassava, and sweet potatoes. However, Joseph’s grandmother cannot afford school fees, and she is now seeking help so that Joseph can stay in school and continue his education.
