John Vianney Kanyerezi
Uganda
DOB: 08/11/2008
Male
Good Health
Favorite Subject: English
Favorite Pastime: Soccer

John Vianney lives with his grandmother after being abandoned by both his parents. His grandmother is a peasant farmer who grows food on a small piece of land she has. This food is enough for family consumption, but unfortunately not enough to sell to pay for other things they need.

With the help of her older grandchildren, she is able to do some gardening for other people to earn some extra money but she is finding it difficult to keep Vianney in school. He has gone to school for a few years, on and off, but never consistently. His grandmother does her best but when she finally is able to afford school fees, she ends up losing her gardening helpers and can not afford it for the next term.

Vianney will need a sponsorship if he is going to have a good chance of finishing his education. He loves playing soccer and dreams of becoming a priest when he grows up. Please pray to St. John Marie Vianney, patron of parish priests, to help him follow this calling one day! He is a bright young boy who we hope finds a sponsor to help him to finish high school and be given the chance to enter the seminary if God wills it.

About my community:
Mary Queen of Families (Kasana-Luweero)
The Kasana-Luweero diocese suffered a massacre during the 1981-1986 civil war which left many children orphaned. As the effects of this tragedy are still felt today, we pray to Mary, Queen of Families to help build healthy families and restore hope in this diocese.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
