Ian and his four siblings faced a tragic situation when their parents passed away from an unknown disease. Since then, their aunt, a generous and loving woman, has been caring for them. The aunt, a peasant farmer, works hard to harvest crops and animal products to provide for the children. However, most of the produce is used to feed the large family, and the little surplus is sold to buy basic home essentials.

The aunt's husband contributes to the family's income by vending fried pieces of chicken in the nearby trading center during the evening hours. Despite their efforts, supporting such a large family can be challenging for them.

Ian, among the children under their aunt's care, attends classes at a nearby primary school, and his academic performance is promising. However, due to financial constraints, he requires assistance to fulfill his dream of becoming a policeman. Any support extended to Ian would contribute to his education and future aspirations.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
