Florence's early life was marked by a significant loss; her father passed away before she had the chance to meet him, leaving her in the care of her grandmother and a mother who faced the daunting task of providing for seven children alone. In pursuit of financial stability and the ability to support her family, Florence's mother ventured away from their home, securing employment as a housemaid in a nearby trading center. Unfortunately, the income from this role has proven insufficient to fully cover the household's needs and the educational expenses for her children.

Despite these struggles, Florence has shown a strong desire to pursue her education, attending school whenever circumstances permit. However, her journey through education has been challenging, primarily due to the lack of consistent tuition funding, which has disrupted her ability to maintain regular attendance. This inconsistency not only hampers her academic progress but also places her aspirations of becoming a teacher at risk.

Florence's situation underscores the pressing need for external assistance to ensure she can access uninterrupted education. By securing the necessary support, Florence would be provided with the opportunity to regularly attend lessons, engage fully in her studies, and advance towards her dream of shaping the minds of future generations as a teacher. Her story is a reminder of the transformative power of education and the importance of community support in enabling young individuals to overcome their circumstances and realize their full potential.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
