Florence is a cheerful and delightful young girl facing challenging circumstances as she lives with her single mother. Despite her mother's dedicated efforts, the family struggles with a meager income, and Florence's school attendance is irregular due to difficulties in covering tuition fees consistently. The absence of her father adds to the financial strain, as his whereabouts are unknown, leaving Florence's mother as the sole provider.

Florence's mother, determined to make ends meet, engages in peasant farming and craft making. However, the income from these activities is entirely consumed by basic household needs. In a selfless gesture, she also cares for her brother's abandoned children, recognizing the importance of education for each child's future. While Florence's mother endeavors to provide some education at home, she understands the limitations compared to formal schooling.

Support for Florence is not just an investment in her education but also a means to alleviate financial pressures on her mother. Attending school regularly can pave the way for Florence to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse, offering her a chance for a brighter future.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
