Emmanuel and his younger brother, ThankGod, live with their mother. Their father abandoned the family several years ago, leaving their mother to provide for her two sons on her own. Since then, she has struggled to find stable work.

To earn money for food, the family collects empty cans from garbage bins around the city. Emmanuel and ThankGod often spend their days walking the streets, searching for cans that they can wash and sell for scrap metal. The little money they earn is used to buy food for the day.

Our liaison, Nelly, met the boys while they were searching for cans and learned more about their family. Their mother shared that they often cannot collect enough cans to provide even two meals a day. She dreams of giving her sons a different future where they can attend school, enjoy nutritious meals, and learn alongside other children, but she cannot afford their school fees.
