The tragic loss of Divine's father in a car accident marked the beginning of a challenging period for her and her family. In the aftermath, Divine and her mother have been navigating a life of significant hardship. Her mother's health has been compromised due to complications in her uterus, necessitating three surgical operations. This has rendered her unable to engage in any strenuous work or income-generating activities, adding to the strain on their already precarious financial situation.

To make ends meet, Divine’s mother has resorted to small-scale farming, raising chickens and goats to generate some income for the family. However, the profits from these endeavors are modest at best, barely covering the family's basic needs. This means that essential aspects of Divine’s education, such as school fees and supplies, often go unaddressed, putting her academic future at risk.

Despite these obstacles, Divine remains dedicated to her studies, demonstrating significant academic potential. Her aspiration to become a doctor is a beacon of hope for her and her mother, symbolizing the possibility of a brighter future. However, realizing this dream will require external support, as the financial barriers they currently face are insurmountable without assistance. Divine's determination in the face of adversity underscores the transformative impact that educational support could have on her life and future career.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
