Christine comes from a very poor family with both of her parents and her eight siblings. Their father isn't a very dependable provider, and he often leaves their home for a long time without warning. When this happens, Christine's mother struggles to feed her children on her own.

Due to the family's financial instability, Christine’s father is only focused on providing food, and doesn't think it's necessary or possible to send all of the children to school.

Christine's mother feels very different, and understands that her children need to go to school if they ever hope to have a successful future. Lately she's picked up jobs in other peoples gardens so that she can sell the crops she harvests for school fees, but this job hardly puts a dent in the fees required for all of her children.

Christine’s mother refuses to give up on them, and she's always looking for ways to make education a possibility. She came to Caritas for Children hoping that she could get some help. She knows her children are smart and resilient, and Christine in particular is great at mathematics. She knows that if Christine is given a chance, she can thrive in school. Christine wishes to become a doctor, and her entire family believes in her abilities.

About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
