After the loss of her husband, Bruno's mother has faced the daunting task of single-handedly raising her two children under challenging circumstances. Struggling to provide even the most basic needs, including meals, her plight as a single parent is a daily battle against poverty and uncertainty.

In her determination to sustain her family, she engages in small-scale farming, cultivating crops on a tiny parcel of land while also trying her hand at small business by selling fried chicken in the town centers. Although the yield from her farming efforts primarily ensures their subsistence, occasionally, a modest surplus allows her to purchase essential household items. Yet, despite her relentless efforts, affording school tuition for Bruno and his sibling remains an insurmountable challenge.

Bruno, a bright and eager learner, harbors the dream of becoming a doctor—a dream that seems increasingly unattainable given his family's financial constraints. Recognizing the potential in her son and the critical importance of education in securing a better future, his mother has sought assistance from CARITAS For Children, hopeful that support will pave the way for Bruno to realize his aspirations and break the cycle of poverty that constrains them.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
