Favorite Subject: English
Favorite Pastime: Netball

After her parents separated, Angel went to live with her elderly grandmother, where she takes on nearly all the household responsibilities. Each morning she wakes up early to help her grandmother bathe, prepare tea, and cook lunch before heading to school.

Both of Angel’s parents rely on irregular, low-paying labor to survive. Her father does odd jobs such as digging and collecting firewood in their home village, but what he earns is far from enough to provide for his seven children. Her mother also does similar work in a nearby village, but the income is equally limited, making it very difficult for her to support her children in any meaningful way.

Despite these challenges, Angel remains committed to her education. She attends a traditional primary school in the area and is a talented netball player, proudly representing her school on the team. Her academic performance is promising, even with the many hardships she faces at home.

With support, Angel would be able to continue nurturing her talents, both in the classroom and on the sports field, and build a more stable and hopeful future.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
