Agnes's life took a turn for the worse with the tragic loss of her father to COVID-19. This event thrust her family into a state of poverty, struggling with the basic necessities of life and the constant challenge of paying school fees. The family's day-to-day existence is now defined by their ongoing financial struggles.

To combat these hardships, Agnes's mother embarked on small-scale entrepreneurial endeavors, including poultry farming and the cultivation of various crops like cassava, potatoes, and bananas. The income from these activities is primarily used to cover basic household needs, with any remaining funds directed towards the children's education expenses.

Despite showing great promise in her studies, Agnes, who is currently in Primary Two, faces the ongoing challenge of inconsistent school attendance due to her family's financial constraints. Providing support for Agnes would not only ensure her continuous education but also help her on her journey to realizing her dream of becoming a teacher, offering a ray of hope amidst the difficulties her family faces.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
