Abdu stays with his parents but leading a type of life that is characterized by lack of almost home essentials. The father has resorted to drinking to the extent that he fails to find his way home from drinking places. He is much accustomed to drinking a local potent gin that is brewed locally and has made his body shrink and bones are protruding out. He has never minded about washing his clothes neither taking a bath.

The mother tries to make an effort to provide a few things that are needed in home. In most cases they forego some the necessities like sugar, tea leaves and above all soome of the meals the day. She does some odd jobs like being employed to work in some people’s gardens, slashing, cleaning compounds of those that need her services and selling firwood.

Abdu attends classes from a nearby school and loves his school. He wants to be a doctor.
