Rosemary is a diligent student with dreams of becoming a teacher, but her aspirations hang in the balance due to her family's dire financial situation. Her father, who struggles with alcoholism and gambling, has left the family, rendering them without a stable income. Consequently, Rosemary, her two siblings, and their mother are now residing with their elderly grandmother, unable to afford rent. The absence of a reliable income source has placed a significant burden on the family, particularly on the mother who strives to meet the educational needs of her children through odd jobs that barely cover their basic necessities.

The financial constraints have escalated as Rosemary and her siblings grow older, with their mother facing increasing difficulties in managing the educational expenses. Despite her relentless efforts in gardening, clothes washing, fetching water, and cleaning compounds, the modest earnings from these jobs are insufficient to cover all household expenses, let alone the growing educational fees. This situation has left their mother grappling with guilt over her inability to provide for her children's future, emphasizing the urgent need for external assistance to secure their education.

In her quest to offer her children a brighter future and a chance at a decent education, Rosemary's mother has turned to CARITAS For Children, seeking help with tuition fees. This plea highlights the dire circumstances of the family and the critical role that external support plays in ensuring that children like Rosemary can pursue their dreams and break free from the cycle of poverty.

About my community:
St. Charles Lwanga (Kampala)
Kampala is the largest diocese in Uganda, so most of our children attend schools in this region. St. Charles Lwanga (one of the Uganda Martyrs whose shrine is located in this diocese) is also the patron saint of Africa, so we invoke his patronage on this community.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
