Michael’s life has been shaped by significant hardship, yet he remains a hopeful young boy longing for the chance to continue his education. He lives in a rural village with his mother and grandmother. Sadly, his schooling was interrupted after Primary Five because his family could no longer afford the fees.

Michael’s early life began under very difficult circumstances. His young mother endured great trauma while working as a housemaid, and since then, their family has faced ongoing struggles. His grandmother, who cares for six other children in addition to Michael, is in poor health and suffers from sickle cell disease, which limits her ability to work. Michael’s mother also experiences health challenges following a complicated childbirth, leaving her unable to earn an income.

Adding to these difficulties, there are no nearby schools within walking distance, meaning Michael would need to attend boarding school, which requires additional fees and supplies the family simply cannot afford. For one year, Michael had a sponsor, but they were unable to continue, meaning Michael had to be sent home.

Despite all of this, Michael and his family remain hopeful. Support would allow him to return to school, restore stability to his life, and give him the opportunity to build a brighter future.

About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
