Melisa lives with her mother and two siblings in a small, single-room rental. Her father abandoned the family when she was very young—so young that she doesn't even remember what he looks like. Since then, her mother has worked tirelessly as a cook in a small restaurant, but her meager income is not enough to meet the family's basic needs or cover school fees.

In search of a better future for her children, Melisa's mother turned to CARITAS For Children for help. Through this support, Melisa was able to attend school, and her life began to change for the better. Sadly, her sponsorship recently ended.

Melisa is a bright and hardworking student with a strong desire to become a police officer one day. With assistance, she can return to school and continue pursuing her education and dreams. Your support could help her take the next step toward a brighter, more secure future.

About my community:
Stella Maris
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda’s population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
