Galgani Nabadda
Galgani lives with her single mother and younger sister Anne in Mukono. Her mother earns a small income by selling church items, like rosaries, near St. Paul Church. The girls’ father is no longer in their lives, and his whereabouts are unknown.
The money Galgani’s mother earns is just enough to cover basic needs, but not school expenses. As a result, Galgani and her sister are often sent home from school when they can't meet required supplies or fees. They have to wait until their mother can afford them, which can sometimes take weeks.
Galgani is eager to learn and stay in school, and with sponsorship, she can continue her education without interruption.
About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
