Christine is an orphan. Her father passed away in 2013, leaving her mother without any job or income. Christine's mother decided to search for a job in one of the Middle Eastern countries and applied for a job as a house maid. When she got the job, she ended up leaving the children with their aging grandmother and she moved. This job allowed her to support her three children and her old mother for awhile.

Sadly, in 2022, Christine's grandmother passed away. This was a terrible blow to the family, and particularly to Christine's mother since her mother was helping to keep her children safe and maintaining their home. After receiving the tragic news, Christine's mother went into a coma from grief. She never woke up, and passed away.

Since then, the care of the three children is in the hands of their aunt who came to live with them in their late grandmother’s home. Unfortunately, Christine's aunt has no permanent job and struggles to make consistent income doing odd jobs. Even before her death, Christine's mother was seeking support through Caritas. Her three daughters, Sarah Namboyera, Christine Nakato, and Christellah Babirye (Christine's twin sister) were already in the program. Since her passing, the situation has become even more desperate, and they need more help than ever.

Even though her life is filled with uncertainty, Christine still dreams of becoming a teacher. She cares very much for children, and wants to help them learn and grow. Christine recently lost her sponsor, and requires a new one in order to have chance at pursuing a career dedicated to helping others in her community.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
