Betty has had the blessing of being sponsored by a Priest since 2014 to go to Day School. During this time. she lived with her single mother who had no job and was taking care of someone's small house and piece of land in Nkokonjeru where she could get food for survival by creating a garden.

Sadly, in April of 2022, the owner of the property had economic issues and he came back to his land, sending Betty, her siblings and their mother away. For now, another good Samaritan gave them a little room but in a very far district (about 150km) from her day school. There are no day schools in that remote village and the only way she could continue her education was to go to Boarding School.

The priest who sponsored her agreed to increase his sponsorship for Betty to half of what was needed and Caritas got a second sponsor who sponsored her for another half unfortunately last year 2023, the priest couldn't continue his sponsorship due to financial difficulties and the second sponsor got the same challenge leaving Betty completely sponsor orphaned and now in great need of a new sponsor for boarding school. To help Betty, the amount is $150/month so that she can have full room and board at a Catholic Boarding School.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda’s population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
