CARITAS Program in Haiti
Help Heal After Natural Disaster
The number of children orphaned, and people displaced after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in 2010 is difficult to precisely determine. And in August 2021, Haiti had another major Earthquake killing and injuring thousands of people, destroying homes, hospitals, churches, and leaving even more people displaced and desperate.
As of September 21st, 2021 we know that the most recent earthquake caused more than 2,200 deaths, 137,500 homes to be damaged or destroyed, and 12,200 people have been wounded.
Living on merely $1 USD per day, 80% of Haitians live below the poverty line, making the needs of children for food, clothing, adequate housing, healthcare, and education unattainable. Haiti is the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere and is now suffering even more than ever.
In Haiti, CARITAS For Children’s ministry support is the Little Sisters of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus (PSST). CARITAS For Children works with these religious women to primarily help provide hope and encouragement to ease the desperate situation of daily life in Haiti by offering education for destitute children.
Through sponsorhips, children also receive daily meals, clean water, basic medical care, counseling, and an opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty they were born into. We also help with humanitarian relief when it is necessary, and it certainly is needed today in Haiti.
In Haiti, CARITAS has a child sponsorship program in six locations from north to south of Haiti including two orphanages and six primary schools where the Little Sisters of St. Therese provide for the academic, spiritual and nutritional needs of these children.
Please help us to increase our healing support in the Port-au-Prince Archdiocese in this time of serious need.
Thank you for considering a donation to our ministry for the people, especially our children in Haiti.
