The tragic passing of Rihanah's father after a brief illness left her family in a dire situation, compounded by the inability to afford a postmortem to determine the cause of his death. Now, Rihanah lives with her mother, who is incapacitated by a chest fracture and unable to engage in any income-generating activities. This has plunged the family into further hardship, often resulting in missed meals and a struggle to meet basic daily needs.

The challenges faced by Rihanah and her mother are profound, as they navigate life without a significant provider. The fracture that hinders her mother from working not only impacts their ability to secure food but also places the burden of the future solely on young Rihanah's shoulders. With the family's financial resources depleted, even the most basic sustenance, like lunch, becomes a luxury they cannot afford, exacerbating their already precarious situation.

Despite these overwhelming obstacles, Rihanah's academic aspirations shine brightly. She is recognized for her promising potential in school and harbors the dream of becoming a doctor. This aspiration, however, is at risk without external support. Rihanah's situation calls for compassionate assistance to bridge the gap between her current circumstances and her potential to succeed academically and fulfill her dream of entering the medical profession.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
