Mary is the second born in the family of three children. She is a sister to Serena Victoria who is the first born. Her parents are still alive but living below poverty lines. The father does odd jobs like digging in other poeples’s gardens and any other simple job that comes his way.  The mother is a typical house wife who keeps at home waiting for the husband to -provide whatever is needed in a home.

The kind of situation experienced as regard to the income has not anabled the family to access quality living. The two girls go to school but their attendance is determined by the availability  of the school requirements. Mary likes so much attending classes but in many instances  fails due to lack of school requirements like fees, books pens, colours and and what to eat at breaktime.

Mary is such a girl whose academic work is promising and if accorded necessary assistance she will  be able to realize her dream of becoming a teacher.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
