Esther, an eighteen-year-old, resides with her grandmother who, at over eighty years old, lacks the strength for work, making Esther responsible for home chores and her grandmother's care, especially during nights. Her proximity to her parents, both of whom are peasant farmers, emphasizes the family's subsistence living - they consume what they grow and sell any excess to meet basic household needs.

Despite her age, Esther has not completed her senior secondary education, a situation directly attributed to the family's financial struggles. This hindrance significantly impacts her aspiration to become a nurse, a dream that remains unattainable without external assistance.

The need for support is clear if Esther is to break the cycle of poverty and achieve her educational and professional goals. Assistance would not only enable Esther to pursue her dream of nursing but would also provide her with the opportunity to improve her and her family's living conditions, offering a beacon of hope amidst their challenging circumstances.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
