Shivan's family is going through financial difficulties as her father works as a motorcycle passenger transporter, which is a common form of public transportation in Uganda. However, the income from this job is meager and barely enough to make ends meet for the family. Despite his best efforts, Shivan's father struggles to cover their basic needs, including her school fees.

The situation has led to unfortunate instances where Shivan is sent home from school due to the inability to pay her school fees on time. These challenges have made it difficult for her to have a consistent attendance in classes, impacting her academic performance. In the face of these hardships, Shivan's father humbly seeks assistance to ensure that Shivan can attend school regularly and pursue her dreams.

Despite the financial constraints, Shivan is a diligent and focused student in class. She has a strong desire to become a nurse, hoping to make a difference in her community and provide care to those in need. With the right support and access to education, Shivan's potential can be unlocked, and she can work towards her aspirations of becoming a nurse.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
