Florence Nakayima
Uganda
DOB: 08/14/2015
Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: Writing
Favorite Pastime: Netball

Both of Florence’s parents are alive, but living below the poverty line.  They have a small piece of land on which they grow crops to feed their family, and the small surplus they are able to produce is sold to buy essential supplies like salt, paraffin wax, etc.

Florence has not had steady attendance at school because she does not meet the school's requirements. She has been sent home to collect what her school requires such as school fees and supplies. When this happens, it could take weeks for her to be able to return to school.

Florence is a kind child and if assisted through CARITAS for children, she will have a chance to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
