Carol has faced tremendous hardships since her father's tragic passing in a car accident back in 2020. He was involved in a collision with a sand-carrying truck while riding his motorcycle home from work, which has had a profound and lasting impact on the family.

Since that fateful day, life has been a struggle for the family. Some of the children have been unable to attend school due to a lack of essential school supplies and requirements, further compounding their challenges. In their quest to make ends meet, Carol's mother relies on farming to provide for her children. She tends to crops and sells the harvest when it's time for collection, using the proceeds to secure basic necessities such as salt and clothing.

Living in a small, dilapidated one-room house, the family grapples with adversity daily. Attendance at school has been inconsistent for Carol's brother, Ivan Kasamba, and her sister, Prossy Nakanwagi, due to the difficult circumstances they face. Carol herself remains determined and hardworking. With the support to stay in school, she aspires to realize her dream of becoming a teacher, an aspiration that could significantly transform her future and contribute to her family's well-being.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
