Vienna Gertrude's life took a dramatic turn four years ago when her mother, a survivor of severe domestic violence and abuse, made the brave decision to leave her husband. This crucial step, taken to ensure their safety and well-being, led to a new set of challenges for the small family. The mother, now solely responsible for Vienna and her sister, has been struggling to make ends meet, particularly in terms of financing their education.

In an attempt to support her family, Vienna's mother has taken up vending secondhand clothes. Despite her relentless efforts, the income generated from this endeavor falls short of covering the family's basic needs, including the children's school fees. This financial constraint poses a significant barrier to Vienna's education.

Vienna, who is recognized as a brilliant pupil, harbors the ambition to become a doctor. Her success and progress in school indicate a bright future, contingent on the availability of necessary resources and support. Assistance in meeting her school requirements would not only ensure her continuous education but also keep alive the possibility of realizing her dream of entering the medical profession.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
